Get an inside look at the film industry and watch the Emmy-winning, Massachusetts-filmed show on the big screen.

Budding filmmakers, movie enthusiasts and Widow's Bay fanatics all have a reason to head to City Hall Plaza next weekend. Grab your coziest gear and your creativity, because it's time for Sweater Weather Festival. The free outdoor fest, taking place on October 17 from 2pm to 11pm, will be a hub of entertainment, education and outdoor cinema.
Co-hosted by the City of Boston, the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and Sweater Weather Films, this daylong celebration is your chance to mingle with the regional film and television industry.
Starting at 2pm, the plaza opens with food trucks, pop-up vendors, live DJ music, free professional headshots, interactive youth filmmaking activities and a community sweater drive. Then it's time to dive into nitty gritty of the film industry. At 3:30pm, five industry panels take the stage, offering real-world career stories and advice from veterans who have worked on acclaimed projects like Ted Lasso and Massachusetts' own blockbuster hit Widow's Bay. Featured discussions include "Deep in the Credits," highlighting essential behind-the-scenes crew members, "The Big Picture," which breaks down how major productions are assembled and a deep dive into how Widow's Bay was brought to life.

A major highlight for local storytellers is the festival's accessible vertical short film contest. Designed to remove high financial barriers to entry, the contest encourages participants of all experience levels to shoot a short film using simply a smartphone. "If you are passionate about this and you have a good story, but you don’t have a budget to rent equipment or you don’t own equipment, grab a phone and do this," said Raymond Fuschetti, creative director and co-founder of Sweater Weather Films. At sunset, the top finalist videos will be projected directly onto the festival’s massive 60-foot screen, with the grand prize winner announced live on the plaza stage.
As darkness falls, the night wraps up with a special outdoor screening of the final two season-one episodes of Widow’s Bay. Fresh off a record-breaking 14 Emmy wins—the most for any comedy series in a single year—the hit show was filmed locally in Gloucester and Rockport using a Massachusetts crew. Watching the haunted-island comedy under the stars on a giant 60-foot screen just two weeks before Halloween offers the ultimate spooky-season experience.
