The days are cold and the nights are long right now in Boston. But one of the best ways to fend off the winter blues is to hit the slopes. And luckily there are some great mountains not too far from Boston for skiing or snowboarding! We spoke with Diego Abba, the CEO of italist, which is a luxury fashion website where shoppers can pick up designer goods at some great prices, for some tips on how to look chic while on the slopes this winter.

What are the trends for ski jackets right now?

Ski-wear is itself quite the trend right now. Almost every brand is getting in on the action with fun designs ready to hit the slopes! Within the realm of ski jackets, bright colors and new brands dominate this season’s hottest styles.

Parajumpers is having its moment. The brand was founded after designer Massimo Rossetti found inspiration in a chance meeting with a member of the 210th Rescue Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska. Rossetti’s designs incorporate functional elements from military and rescue gear, such as large, secure pockets and heavy-duty hooks, which have become a distinctive feature of the brand.

Moncler is of course the classic choice in bright hues like purple, though as prices for its down ski jackets have crept up slowly over time, brands like Duvetica have found their niche offering similar style and comfort for less than half the price.

Even brands you wouldn’t necessarily associate with ski culture are offering versions of down jackets with tons of attitude: enter Rick Owens in mauve.

What brands are trending for winter hats and gloves?

During the harsh winter months, knit beanies from brands like Burberry, Max Mara, and Moncler are always popular—in cashmere and wool. Otherwise, hats in other shapes and materials like the faux-fur ball cap (here is one from Fendi), faux-mohair bucket hat (from Jacquemus), and even a bucket hat in classic intrecciato lambskin (Bottega Veneta) are trending this winter.

What about aprés ski outfits? What should people think about when shopping for chic outfits?

For the après, you’ll be effortlessly chic in fitted, skin-hugging separates like some velvet leggings from Balenciaga paired with a Palm Angels’ jacquard-knit top

For dressier moments, we love this leather midi pencil skirt from Fendi and red and black cropped shearling jacket from Shoreditch Ski Club. If you’re just going for the weekend, these are all you’ll need for a few picture-ready ensembles!

Any snow boot trends this season?

I'm glad you asked!

Moon Boot is the name to know this year. We profiled the brand in our magazine and have a great selection of its iconic Apollo 11 space mission-inspired footwear, most of which is on sale and primed for the slopes.
