With Valentine’s Day upon us, we have good news for Hub based singles looking for love: Your chances are better than in 39 other states. Personal-finance website WalletHub just released its report on 2024's Best & Worst States for Singles, and Massachusetts rates high (despite what Reneé Rapp says).
The study compared the 50 states across 29 key indicators of dating-friendliness. The data set ranges from the share of single adults to online-dating opportunities to restaurants per capita.
How did Massachusetts rank?
Massachusetts was ranked in 11th place with a score of 55.40.
The best state for singles was Florida with a total score of 66.92.
The worst state for singles was West Virginia for a score of 35.59.
How did Massachusetts score across the board?
In order to identify the best and worst states for singles, WalletHub compared the 50 states with three factors in mind: Dating economics, dating opportunities and romance and fun.
Massachusetts was in 4rd place for dating economics, and 48th for dating opportunities and, excitingly, 13th for romance and fun.
For calculating dating economics, the study looked at prices for beer and wine, Starbucks caffe lattes, movie costs, salon costs, household income, unemployment rates and more, while the dating opportunities set looked at the metrics of single adults, online and mobile dating opportunities and openness to relationships.
Romance and fun, our personal favorite part of dating, looked at the number of restaurants and activities per capita, which is why Massachusetts and Boston ranked so high. They also looked at nightlife options, music festivals and movie theaters.
