Should El Jefe’s be allowed to stay open until 2am on Boston Common?

Boston does not have that many late-night food options.

We all know that Boston does not have that many late-night food options. Thankfully, we have always had Chinatown, which has historically offered revelers dining options until 3 or 4am. However, we have lost quite a few of the old favorites there over the years as well, RIP Chau Chow’s and Gourmet Dumpling House, two of my personal favorites. But right now, the fight is on for El Jefe’s near Boston Common.

Right now, they are licensed to close at midnight, however, they are seeking a 2am close. Earlier this summer owner, John Schall asked customers to sign a petition to keep their Northeastern location open until 3 am and over 2,500 people signed it in less than a week. This aided in getting approval from the City of Boston. The Northeastern location of El Jefe’s now has a 3am closing time, which I can imagine is a nice treat to all the students who are now back on campus for full-time in-person learning.

El Jefe’s is now trying to get approval from the City of Boston Licensing Board to move the Boston Common location’s closing time from midnight to 2am. Located literally in the middle of the Emerson campus and just a stone’s throw from all of the Theater Districts clubs and bars, having access to a quality late-night burrito is surely a nice amenity worthy of all world-class cities such as Boston.

If you want to help the cause, here is a link to the petition, and be sure to include your zip code.

In the meantime, while they may be slim pickings we have collected a list of our favorite late night bites and of course our favorite bars, so check those out if you are a Boston night owl.
