The Ultimate Meal is a series where we share how to best enjoy Boston’s best restaurants. Whether you have been to these restaurants a dozen times or are trying to check off as many as you can from our “best of” lists, The Ultimate Meal is here to help you decide what to order once you have sat down at the table. Did you catch our last one at Grana at the Langham Boston? This time around we are talking about how to have the ideal experience at Woods Hill Pier 4 in the Seaport.

Owner Kristin Canty has brought farm-to-table dining to the Seaport, on the site where the iconic Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant once stood. The seasonal menus are always filled with modern, local dishes using ingredients that are organic, non-GMO and come from local area purveyors. Most meat comes from The Farm at Woods Hill and other local farms that raise animals ethically, giving customers a top-notch product. Woods Hill Pier 4 is now a staple for date nights, celebratory dinners, and drinks with friends on their spacious patio.

When to go

Open for both dinner and weekend brunch, Woods Hill Pier 4 is either a place to visit at prime time or after work at 5pm. If you are looking for a romantic date night spot, book a table at 8pm, but if you are planning on grabbing drinks at the bar with some work friends, pop in at 5pm, no reservation required. But also, especially in the summertime, this is a hotspot for brunch, where you will definitely want to book a table in advance to score a seat on the patio overlooking the water.

Who to bring with you

Perfect for a date or drinks with friends, but perhaps a little too fun for a buttoned-up business dinner (but also a great choice for after-work-drinks).

What to eat

The menu changes seasonally, so you will rarely see the same thing on the menu, but a few of the staples are the raw bar, crudos, bucatini and the broccoli. But the locally sourced meat dishes are truly the star. Also, save room for dessert, they do a mean espresso martini.

What to drink

In terms of what to drink, the cocktail list is always a winner. Expect interesting liquors, balanced flavors and creative concoctions.
