After a weekend filled with dark, dreary days, you may be wondering if this rain will ever stop. It feels like it's a little early in the fall for grim, gray weather but here we are. The summer officially ended on Saturday, September 23 and fall didn’t waste any time coming in with cool, rainy days. Whether you’re all in on cozy fall vibes or just want a few more weeks of fun in the sun, we’ve got some answers about what’s going on with the weather, and what you can do for fun when it’s drenching outside.

When will the rain in Boston actually stop?

Tropical Storm Ophelia is responsible for our soggy weekend, as the storm moves north along the mid-Atlantic coast, and continues to do so on Monday.

It’s going to be another cool and soggy day, with ongoing rain, however no flooding is expected. What is expected is on and off showers in Boston all day Monday, and south of the Mass Pike, reports Boston 25.

The good news? The showers will continue to ease up overnight Monday and transition to patchy drizzle by Tuesday morning. But don’t expect a sunny, warm day, it’s still going to be cool and in the low 60s. That’s about 10 degrees below our average temperature in September, and the skies will still be cloudy.

Will we see any sun in Boston this week?

Maybe, but it's too early to say confidently. High pressure will nudge the storm out and we may see more sunshine Wednesday and Thursday. The late week is a bit up in the air, as it’s looking like it will be dry, but there’s still a chance for more clouds and showers.

What can I do indoors for fun?

Since you’ve probably run through every streaming service you’ve signed up for over the weekend, and are fully ready to get out of the house, there’s plenty of galleries, museums, historic landmarks and more to keep you occupied.

Need a date night? Head to one of our local bowling alleys and arcades, like Kings Dining and Entertainment, with locations in Back Bay, the Seaport, Dedham and Burlington.

Desperate for a workout? Pretend you’re gliding across the Charles while getting an indoor group rowing workout at Row Republic near the North End or Rowhouse at Lovejoy Wharf. Or, find more ways to get a great workout while avoiding inclement weather.

Or, if you need some pampering, room to walk and a nice meal, hit the Encore Boston Harbor Resort and Casino. It’s a quick hop from downtown on the ferry, or an easy drive, and parking is free. Spend an afternoon at the tables, enjoy a meal in one of the award winning restaurants and get totally pampered at the five star spa (we love the Balancing Hot Stone treatment).
