The anniversary exhibition brings together photography, painting and sculpture, featuring names such as Valter Vinagre, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos and Pedro Valdez Cardoso.

Founded in 1996, it has brought a wealth of art to Cascais ever since. Now, to celebrate 30 years of activity, Fundação D. Luís I, which oversees the management and programming of the municipality’s cultural venues, is opening a special exhibition at Centro Cultural de Cascais (CCC), featuring a group of Portuguese and international artists who, in one way or another, have left their mark on the institution.
“30 Years, 30 Artists” can be seen on Level 1 of the CCC from 27 February until 3 May. Organised around three creative strands – painting, drawing and printmaking; photography; and sculpture – it encapsulates the history of the foundation responsible for the Museum Quarter.
“The selection [of works] does not seek to provide an exhaustive overview of three decades of exhibition activity, but rather to outline a representative portrait of the institution’s cultural identity. Each work marks a significant moment in its programming and, at the same time, projects new possibilities for interpretation and engagement with audiences,” reads the press release.
Among the 30 artists featured in the exhibition, who establish “a dialogue between generations, languages and distinct ways of thinking about and representing the world”, are Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos, a visual artist of enormous importance in 20th-century Portuguese art; Roberto Chichorro, a leading figure in contemporary Mozambican painting; and sculptors Pedro Valdez Cardoso and Maria Leal da Costa.
In the field of photography, an area in which the Foundation has invested heavily in recent years, highlights include the Portuguese photographers Valter Vinagre and Gonzalo Bénard, as well as the American Jack Radcliffe.
