The Ageas Cooljazz 2026 line-up continues to grow and is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most appealing. This time, the festival confirms a living legend of Brazilian music, Gilberto Gil, who will take to the stage at the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo, in Cascais, on July 8, for the opening night. The organisation is adding an extra date to the usual seven-night programme, reserving it for the voice behind “Toda Menina Baiana”.

At 83 and with more than six decades of career, Gilberto Gil is a central figure in Brazilian culture and one of the key names of the Tropicália movement, having left a deep mark on the country’s popular music. Over the years, his work has explored themes such as philosophy, politics, religion and romance, always with a close eye on everyday Brazilian life. Songs like “Aquele Abraço”, “Domingo no Parque” and “Vamos Fugir” are part of a repertoire that spans generations and remains a staple of his live shows.

According to the organisers, confirming Gilberto Gil reinforces the festival’s identity and highlights the ambition of this edition. Karla Campos, director of Live Experiences and promoter of Ageas Cooljazz, stresses the importance of adding an eighth night to the programme and doing so with “one of the greatest names in Brazilian culture”, making 2026 “even more special”.

The 2026 edition also includes David Byrne, Loyle Carner, Jamiroquai, Diana Krall, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters and Chet Faker, in a line-up that once again takes over the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo throughout July.

Parque Marechal Carmona, Praceta Domingos D’Avilez, Av. da República (Cascais). 31 July, Thu. €38–€66
