In the grounds of the Quinta da Marinha Sheraton, an open-air terrace pairs freshly baked artisanal pastries with healthy dishes, welcoming both resort guests and the local community.

The manicured lawns of the Sheraton Cascais Resort, in Quinta da Marinha, have long served as the backdrop for warm days filled with brunches, dips in the pool, and summer nights with outdoor cinema. But there is now a new way to enjoy the tranquility of this pine-shaded garden. Opened on 25 August, MIMO Café invites visitors to explore Portuguese coffee culture and pastry traditions, whilst catering to modern palates and current food trends — yes, we are talking about avocado toast.
Having already established itself in Kuwait, Dubai, and more recently at the Pine Cliffs Resort in the Algarve, the brand has arrived in Cascais boasting a spacious terrace and the ambition to win over locals alongside hotel guests. "MIMO is a brand with a strong identity, designed to adapt flexibly to a variety of settings, from kiosks to larger coffee shops," explains Manuel Machado Carneiro, General Manager of the Sheraton Cascais, in an interview with Time Out.
The newest MIMO centres on traditional artisanal baking, freshly made every morning, and the classic Portuguese coffee ritual. However, the venue at the Sheraton Cascais Resort has expanded its menu to accommodate those seeking light, healthy meals throughout the day, ranging from breakfast classics to wholesome lunches.
During Time Out's visit, the menu's versatility was immediately apparent. The morning began with a breakfast leaning towards those who cannot resist a sweet indulgence rather than anyone strictly following a healthy lifestyle. The chocolate croissant (€3.50) is one of the bakery's signature items; however, the mixed berry tartlet (€5.00), which balances the tartness of the fruit with rich cream, makes a compelling case for dessert lovers.
Beyond the sweet offerings, if you are looking for a relaxed lunch on the terrace, there are lighter options as well as more satisfying dishes. The avocado and burrata toast with cherry tomatoes and parmesan (€17.00) might raise eyebrows among traditionalists, but a single bite is enough to win you over. If a salad is preferred, the fresh burrata with mango chutney and crispy onions (€18.00) stands out as a clear winner with its contrasting flavours.
To accompany the meal, 100% natural detox juices are highly recommended. The Carrot Passion (€8.00) — chosen by our reporter — blends pineapple, papaya, carrot, and passion fruit into a vitamin-rich drink ideal for cleansing the body. If you wish to undo all that healthy effort, end your meal with a stack of pancakes. Two varieties are available: served with maple syrup, banana, cinnamon, and icing sugar (€11.00), or topped with hazelnut chocolate, mixed berries, and granola (€12.50).
For those who prefer to take something away, a display counter showcases various sweet treats, including pastéis de nata (€3.00), Sintra travesseiros (€4.50), and queijadas (€4.50).
One of the key points highlighted by the resort's general manager is opening up access to the property's amenities. Much like the Sheraton's other venues, MIMO Café was conceived as an informal gathering spot open to the entire Cascais community — an ideal location for casual business meetings, catching up with friends, or enjoying a family break. After all, who could say no to a stack of pancakes in a garden like this?
