Coconuts is preparing to reopen its doors after almost a decade of closure. Part of the Farol Hotel complex, the venue that defined Cascais nightlife in the 1980s and 1990s is being reborn as a space for events such as weddings and private parties. The official reopening is set for October 20.
The building’s history dates back to the late 19th century, when the property belonged to the Count of Cabral and served as a family residence, complete with a small stable for animals. Several decades later, the same site gave rise to Coconuts, which opened in the 1960s and quickly became known as one of Greater Lisbon’s busiest nightclubs. However, its nightlife chapter came to an end in 2008, when the venue came under the management of the Farol Design Hotel. From then on, it hosted only private events and weddings – an activity that ended in 2017, leaving the space closed and unused until now.
In recent years, the site even suffered significant damage, particularly after Storm Martinho, which destroyed part of the roof and affected several areas of the hotel. The Farol Hotel management used the opportunity to rethink the building’s future, leading to the complete renovation of Coconuts, now ready to host up to 300 guests.
The new Coconuts is divided between a spacious indoor hall with large glass windows overlooking the sea and an outdoor deck with direct views of the Atlantic. The new décor features a clean, neutral aesthetic, with white walls and simple lines that allow the space to be adapted for different types of events. This approach makes it possible to create two distinct zones within each celebration: “Inside, you can divide the main wedding space into a lounge and nightclub area on one side, and an elegant, chic reception area on the other”, reads the Coconuts website.
Although finishing touches are still underway, bookings are already open – and the first major event will be the Farol Hotel’s New Year’s Eve party, featuring DJ Pedro Casanova.
