Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais (EPTC) is moving to the Academia de Artes do Estoril, which occupies the emblematic Edifício Cruzeiro. The official inauguration of the new facilities takes place this Thursday, September 12th, from 17.00.
The building, which was the country's first shopping centre and which has been rehabilitated in recent years by the municipality to serve as a cultural hub - having been inaugurated for this new life at the beginning of 2023 - will now house the Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais, which will occupy 10 rooms in the building.
As well as classrooms, the structure will include a performance hall with capacity for 300 people, a 150 square metre stage and three dressing rooms. The new facilities are modern and technically suitable for the curriculum. On the day of the inauguration, the newly appointed pedagogical director of the Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais, Maria Duarte, will present her new pedagogical project, which rethinks the future of the school founded by Carlos Avilez (1939-2023) 32 years ago, and which until then operated in Alcabideche.
"The new guidelines aim to design a school with the capacity to respond to the global ramifications of the theatrical and artistic profession, as well as its globalisation", the school said in a press release. In this new space, EPTC - which operates under the auspices of Cascais Town Council and the Teatro Experimental de Cascais - will have a total of 33 teachers with different skills and experience.
