Scissor Sisters are the latest addition to the Ageas Cooljazz line-up, making their festival debut on July 29 with “The Kiki Continues” tour. The US collective will bring to Cascais their blend of disco, pop and electronic rock that has shaped two decades of career, in a show designed as a celebration of an unapologetically irreverent legacy that’s deeply rooted in queer culture.

Since their debut album Scissor Sisters (2004), the band have stood out for their infectious energy and songs that jumped from the dancefloor straight into the pop memory bank. Then came Ta-Dah (2006), home to “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’”, written with Elton John and one of the group’s biggest hits. Their most recent album, Magic Hour (2012), brought collaborations with Calvin Harris and Pharrell Williams and leaned further into house and pop. Despite the recording hiatus, Scissor Sisters have kept their bond with audiences intact, built on freedom, humour and messages of support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

At Ageas Cooljazz, the concert takes place on July 29 at Hipódromo Manuel Possolo, in Cascais. Doors open at 19.00, followed by the Cascais Jazz Sessions by Smooth FM at 20.00 in the Parque Marechal Carmona amphitheatre. Afterwards, the first act of the night takes to the Ageas Stage, ahead of the Main Concert – in this case, the Scissor Sisters performance. The Late Nights close each day’s programme back at the amphitheatre. As always, audiences are encouraged to arrive early and make the most of Cool Pick & Go, one of the trademarks of the festival’s laid-back atmosphere.

This marks the band’s return to Portugal after performing earlier this year on the main stage at MEO Kalorama.

Also confirmed for Cooljazz are names like Jamiroquai, David Byrne and Diana Krall.

Hipódromo Manuel Possolo. Jul 29 (Tue). 40€-55€.
