A new cultural space is coming to Cascais. The Government has announced that the State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE), which comprises around three thousand art pieces, will gain its own dedicated space in Alcabideche. The inauguration is scheduled for the first half of 2026.
The building, purchased from the Ellipse Foundation for 3.45 million euros, will allow a collection that was previously spread across various rented spaces to be concentrated in a single location, resulting in an annual saving of 660 thousand euros, which will be invested in Culture, stated the Minister of Culture, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, quoted by Lusa.
In addition to the rationalisation of resources, the creation of this new centre will make the collection’s reserves visitable, providing the public with appropriate conditions for climate control, conservation, and security. The space, which already meets international museological standards, will feature a dedicated exhibition area open to the public, programming coordinated with the movement of the art pieces, and an educational service.
CACE is a public collection that brings together contemporary artworks acquired by the State with the aim of supporting national artists, preserving contemporary artistic creation, and promoting it to the public.
