Looking to discover Cascais from a new perspective? We have some advice for you, and it doesn't involve buying new glasses, but rather catching a ride with Miguel Mira in one of his many classic cars.

The vehicles at Superb Tours act as a kind of time machine, transporting guests to another era when kings and queens traveled to Cascais and Estoril. Guided by a host who doubles as a true local historian, visitors can uncover every detail of the region—from the haunts where spies met during World War II to secret viewpoints with the best panoramas. The company promises to introduce Cascais to newcomers while unveiling hidden secrets for lifelong residents.

A passion for classics and a stand against mass tourism

The story of Superb Tours is closely linked to its founder, Miguel Mira, whose passion for historic vehicles traces back to his childhood and time spent with his grandparents. After operating routes in Lisbon—which were set aside due to bureaucratic hurdles and the belief that the capital's traffic impedes truly contemplative tourism—and in Alentejo, the business found its home base in Cascais. Its brand identity is woven into its logo, featuring the sunny yellow and blue colors of the Costa do Sol alongside the silhouette of the Santa Marta Lighthouse.

The project’s philosophy rejects mass or rushed tourism. For Miguel, classic cars are meant to be enjoyed at a gentle pace, allowing guests to stop anywhere to take photos or simply admire the landscape. The fleet boasts 89 cars from various eras, including rare historical gems like the 1936 Rolls-Royce belonging to King Alfonso XIII of Spain, a 1952 Buick identical to the one featured in the film Rain Man, an Allard, and the 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn formerly owned by the House of Windsor—featuring the kneeling Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, a symbol of submission to Royalty. It was this very Silver Dawn that carried the Time Out team on a tour through Cascais, Estoril, and Guincho.

Themed routes: from WWII Spies in Estoril to the Alentejo

Superb Tours also partners with film and advertising productions. On the big screen, the company's fleet featured in Portuguese feature films such as A Aparição (2018) and Ordem Moral (2020). On television, its vehicles appeared in series and productions including Sr. Rui, Páginas da Vida, and the show Casados à Primeira Vista. The automotive collection has also served as a backdrop for fashion brands, catalogs, and media campaigns, including Vogue, Lion of Porches, Salsa Jeans, O Boticário, Ecorkhotel, and the music video for the collaborative track by Mastiksoul and Rita Guerra.

Beyond the traditional Cascais circuit and fully customized itineraries, Miguel highlights several themed tours. The most popular is the Estoril Spy Experience Tour (€350 for up to 3 passengers), conducted in pre-1950 automobiles, which explores the behind-the-scenes world of WWII espionage. This route passes former hotels where spies took refuge, the Cimas restaurant (formerly the English Bar), and the Espírito Santo family residence, culminating at the Hotel Palácio Estoril with a visit to its museum room and a complimentary James Bond cocktail.

The offerings also include the Royalty Tour (from €180 per vehicle for up to 4 passengers), focusing on the residences of exiled monarchs; the Casino Royal, which explores the history of the coast's casinos dating back to the 18th century; and longer routes heading toward the Alentejo or the Knights Templar circuit.

Prices vary depending on the route and format, starting at €100 for the Cascais Tour, €120 for the Estoril Tour, and €180 for the Guincho Tour. These rates apply per vehicle for up to four passengers, with capacities ranging from two to eight seats across the fleet.

The current summer campaign offers a combined experience pairing a classic car drive with a boat trip out to the Bugio Lighthouse for €380 (valid for four people). All services can be consulted directly through Superb Tours' platforms.
