The latest retrospective at the Art Institute looks back on the career of Chicago-born and educated artist Charles White, a painter and muralist who was inspired by the socially-charged work of Diego Rivera. White focused his work on the lives of African Americans, supporting the fight for equality with images that made a case for social change.
