Designed by Chicago architect Bertrand Goldberg, Marina City opened in 1962 as the tallest residential building in the world, with just 65 stories. Today, the two mixed-use towers continue to stand as an essential trademark of the Chicago skyline. Often referred to as the "corn cob towers," the Marina Towers are two of the city's most recognizable structures and have been featured in major movies like 1980's The Hunter, in which a car famously rolls off the 14th-floor parking garage and plunges into the river.
