As at the nearby Rainbo Club, the hipness quotient at this stripped-down Ukie V stalwart known as the Secret Squirrel has shot through its nicotine-stained ceiling, paralleling the changing demographics of the neighborhood. You can still belly up with a couple of actual Ukrainian expats in the afternoon, but eager twentysomethings with energy (and hormones) to burn rule the night.

My favorite "dive bar" in Chicago, as I live a block away and love the cheap dranks! Billiards, a solid jukebox, and the sweetest little old bartenders in Chicago also help. Contrary to Timeout's assessment, I don't see as big of a hipster infestation at this joint as I do at Rainbo, Gold Star, Happy Village, or Innertown. More yuppies, neighborhoody types, and old drunks tend to frequent this joint.

This is a great stumble when I go home a little earlier than I want to from other neighborhood and want a few drinks. Also, free pretzel sticks are better than Archie's cheese balls any day. The bar is also more welcoming and cleaner. Hoping this review doesn't blow up so this place stays my little secret...
