With its gigantic metal chandeliers, leaded-glass cabinetry and old-time lever-operated cash register, this bar has a turn-of-the-century feel (the one before last) that may just make you feel a little transported. Prices aren't quite pre-Prohibition, but you will find generously poured mixed drinks for five bucks, $3 bottled domestic beer (no drafts available) and friendly people (sometimes overly friendly, if you're a gal's gal).

I've been in bars in 40 states and several country's but I've never run into a more rude or abusive bartender than Nancy at Lizard's. I've played here dozens of times FOR FREE in fact I pay for my beer and tip the server. In Chicago here are often outside seating areas where you can sip a beer till 10:00 PM I went outside sat on the bench took out my guitar to tune up for open mike. Here come Nancy the Nazi. swearing "What the f**k are you doing" over and over then it came over and TOOK my beer. I like this bar but this (person) needs some therapy she is bad for business. NO stars for Nazilita.
Chicagoans like to talk about their favorite neighborhood bars, but Lizard's Liquid Lounge is rarely a part of that conversation. The Irving Park institution isn't easy to get to—there's no nearby train station, so it mostly attracts folks who live nearby. If you're willing to make the journey, you'll be greeted by creative decor (check out that KISS painting), great drinks and some friendly conversation. Plus, Small's Smoke Shack is next door and you can order it from the bar.
