Bars, Lounges Lake View
Best gay bars in Chicago: Scarlet Bar

After a fire destroyed much of this ballyhooed Boystown hangout in early ’09, Scarlet has risen from the ashes (literally!) in much improved form. The sepia-toned images, stained glass and gaudy red lighting have been replaced by elegant touches, including a 13-foot re-upholstered couch, a comfy antique chaise and a glittery vintage disco ball. The rebirth also includes a bit more elbow room, perfect for the elements that remained intact, namely the loyal and adorable bar staff and bustling theme nights like Frat House Thursdays and the First Ward Ball.
