Scofflaw | Cocktail bar report card

The year-old Logan Square cocktail spot is an instant classic.

History When it opened a year ago, this gin-focused bar from alums of the Whistler, Boiler Room, Simone’s and Bonny’s quickly became one more reason for Red and Brown Liners to trek to Logan Square. Money spent on cab fare is saved on drinks—cocktails here are a scant $8.

Minutes to get a seat on a weekend night 43 (33 of those spent waiting outside—in winter)

Minutes to order/receive first drink 5/4

Quality Ingredients are thoughtfully chosen, down to the regionally made gins (North Shore, Death’s Door). The Sutter’s Mill cocktail is a standout, with Four Roses bourbon, honey ginger syrup, lime, Averna and cubes of vanilla ice.

Value Excellent. These drinks make $12 cocktails at the Violet Hour look steep.

Food Small plates (a patty melt, fennel tomato bisque) worth blunting your buzz.

Final evaluation The only thing the spot’s lost since it exploded in popularity is its accessibility: Lines start forming outside on weekends as early as 7pm. Fortunately, the efficient staff makes sure food and drink are just minutes away once you’re inside.

Still iconic? YES
