Located in the Chicago Athletic Association, the sprawling bar has pool tables, a poker table, chess boards and a full bocce court, so there’s plenty to entertain you between rounds of affordable, well-made drinks from Paul McGee (Lost Lake), like a spritely sherry cobbler and a bracing rum-amaro highball. Snacks from Peter Coenen are fair-inspired, and include a warm pretzel with gooey beer cheese and a root beer float spiked with Fernet.

Great Drinks, Pool, Shuffle Board, Games, adult play yard in the heart of one of the most historical buildings in Chicago!
Many have tried to replicate it, but The Game Room is still undefeated. It's the only bar in Chicago with FREE GAMES and a real cocktail program, great draft beers, fun and shareable food and a great social atmosphere where you can meet new friends. An after-work Mecca for the Loop and a lively late-night that's not "clubby". What's not to love?
The game room is one of my favorite places in Chicago. It is my go to place whenever i have friends or family in town and is a fun time no matter what day it is. I go there for happy hours and get their old fashioned. It is one of my favorite drinks in the city!!
The Game Room, located inside the Chicago Athletic Hotel, is a fun spot for drinks and small apps. Its dimly lit and usually quite filled with patrons. They offer a decent variety of beer both bottled and draft. Their appetizers, including the smoked wings and pork tacos, were quite delicious. After a few cocktails, enjoy playing bocce ball or shuffleboard (not the Florida type with sticks, but with small metal discs on a table, and of course, billiards.
The Game Room is a blast! Located downtown in the CAA, this spot is one of the best bars in the loop. It has a superb cocktail list, delicious snacks, and tons of games. You can play anything from Bocce to checkers. I highly recommend checking this spot out if you haven't!
I have yet to play on the indoor bocce ball courts, but even so, this is one of my favorite stops in the Chicago Athletic Association hotel. It's great spot to play a relaxed game of pool without pool sharks giving you a run or people being table hogs. Same goes for the shuffleboard tables! Plus, the simple drink menu makes it easy to order in a pinch and get back to the games.
So. Much. Fun. I learned shuffleboard (foreigner here) one night while enjoying drinks and good friends. The room has a super relaxed, old-school clubby atmosphere, and the service is quick, friendly and the drinks expert. Great post-work destination for Loop folk.
Stopping by the Game Room after work is one of my newest not-so-guilty pleasures. It's great to hang out and have a conversation with a friend, or play indoor bocce ball. The cocktails are always on point and the beer list is pretty fantastic, too.
Everyone needs to go to the Game Room. You can order a to-die-for drink (or opt for a local beer) and kick back in one of the many plush seating areas, or take your cocktail over to one of the countless old-school games and play a round of shuffleboard or foosball, or head over to the massive indoor bocce ball court. The space itself is a sight to see.
If you're looking to drink well downtown, the Chicago Athletic Association is your best bet. And if you're looking for a less intimidating bar in the CAA, the Game Room is your best bet. The drinks are by Paul McGee, who knows a thing or two about making cocktails.
