Halloween weekend is around the corner. While it's a great time of year to go out and party with friends, it's also an opportunity to spice things up with your significant other. And living in Chicago means you have seemingly endless options for you and your partner to get into the spirit. Bond over your love of all things spooky this Halloween with these five date ideas.

Check out a haunted house: If you're brave enough, tons of haunted houses in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs offer up a good scare. Getting spooked gives you the chance to cuddle up. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to see whether your date is a wimp. Think a haunted house is a bad idea for a first date? One study shows an adrenaline response (like the one we get when we’re scared) actually strengthens attraction. When our hearts speed up, our bodies don’t always differentiate between fear, nerves, love and so on.

Wander through a corn maze: Everyone knows Illinois is full of corn. Why not get lost in it? Taking a date to a corn maze is a great opportunity to work together to find the way out. If a regular corn maze isn’t for you, try a haunted one that's only open after dark.

Get weird at a costume party: This one's easy. Have some fun together at a costume party. If you're not afraid of being cheesy, collaborating on couple's costumes can be downright adorable. If your idea is super creative, think about entering one of the many costume contests around town. Or, if you're not sure what you'll talk about, get dressed up and go to one of these awesome Halloween concerts

Stay in and make Halloween treats: This is more of a low-key date idea, but it's still cute and fun. The internet is overflowing with simple Halloween-themed recipes to make, and of course, eat together. If you really want to get into the fall spirit, go apple picking at a local orchard and make some candy apples.

Head to the movies for a horror flick: Check out some classic horror movies during Halloween weekend. A lot of scary films are showing at conventional movie theaters, but you'll also find screenings taking place in parks and cemeteries.
