A new dance festival will put the moves on Chicago in October

As many as 40 Chicago choreographers and dance companies will present public performances across the city as part of Elevate Chicago Dance, a three-day, one-time-only festival announced Wednesday afternoon by Chicago Dancemakers Forum.

Elevate Chicago Dance will take place from October 19 to 21, with public shows at the Chicago Cultural Center, South Shore Cultural Center, DEFBRILLATOR, Loyola Park Fieldhouse, Links Hall and the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago. The companies and independent dancemakers on the slate, curated by Peter Taub (the former performance director for the Museum of Contemporary Art), include Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre, Same Planet Performance Project, ATOM-r, the Seldoms, Hedwig Dances, Lucky Plush Productions, Khecari, Every house has a door, Darling Shear and more.

The festival, the culmination of a multi-year initiative between Chicago Dancemakers Forum and the New England Foundation for the Arts’s National Dance Project, will also include invitation-only studio showings for a convening of dance professionals from around the country.
