About Face Theatre has completed casting for the Chicago premiere of The Temperamentals, a 2010 play by Jon Marans about the founding of the early gay-rights group the Mattachine Society.

Set in the 1950s—and taking its title from a slang term of the time referring to gay men—Marans’s play focuses on the romance between two of the Mattachine Society’s founders, Harry Hay and Rudi Gernreich. They'll be played by Kyle Hatley and Lane Anthony Flores, respectively. The ensemble is rounded out by Paul Fagen, Rob Lindley and Alex Weisman. About Face artistic director Andrew Volkoff will direct.

The Temperamentals runs January 13–February 18 at Theater Wit. About Face’s current production of Doug Wright’s I Am My Own Wife continues there through December 10.
