Victory Gardens Theater has announced casting for the Chicago premiere of Robert Askins’s comedy Hand to God, to be directed by Gary Griffin.

Alex Weisman will star in the sort-of-dual role of Jason, a devout Texas teen, and Tyrone, the evil sock puppet that takes hold of Jason’s left hand. Also in the cast are Nina Ganet (Jessica), Curtis Edward Jackson (Timothy), Eric Slater (Pastor Greg) and Janelle Snow (Margery). The creative team includes Joe Schermoly (scenic design), Janice Pytel (costume design), Christine Binder (lighting design), Chris Kriz (sound design), Michael Dold (properties design) Daniel Dempsey (puppet design) and Isaac Gomez (dramaturgy).

Hand to God premiered in 2012 at Off Broadway’s Ensemble Studio Theatre, eventually making its way to a Broadway bow in 2015, where it earned five Tony Award nominations. The Victory Gardens production will run September 16–October 16.
