In June 2011, the antique glass at the Garfield Park Conservatory was severely damaged during a hail storm. After four years and $15 million, the conservatory is once again fully functional, this time with double-paned glass in case ice rocks start falling from the sky again.

The Desert House and the Fern Room were the last to undergo repairs, and the Fern Room's iconic waterfall will once again be flowing. Today's grand opening celebration falls in line with Earth Day. There will also be a Family Day celebration on Sunday if you'd like to show your little nuggets the glory of chlorophyll.

Take some time this week to escape the city air and enjoy some good old photosynthesis. Check out all the grand re-opening activities here.
