With the Boy Scouts of America having ended their ban on openly gay adult leaders in July, following the acceptance of gay scouts in 2014, the Center on Halsted has announced its intent to become the first LGBT community center to charter a troop.

The Center on Halsted has hosted a Girl Scout Troop since 2013. It's now seeking volunteer scout leaders for a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack. "We’re embarking on a new groundbreaking endeavor and that’s very exciting," chief program officer Julie Walther said in a statement. "It’s important for us, as an organization, to be those agents of change and lead the way in creating inclusive communities."

Those interested in volunteering or in more information on the center's partnership with the Boy Scouts can contact special events and volunteer manager Grant Ladniak at gladniak@centeronhalsted.org.
