Chicago startup SpotHero wants to pay your parking ticket

If you received a parking ticket yesterday in Chicago, you may be able to recoup some of the cost. Chicago-based startup SpotHero announced Thursday that it would give drivers who got ticketed on Wednesday a Visa prepaid gift card worth up to $100.

Here’s how it works. If you received a parking ticket in the city of Chicago between midnight (12am) and 11:59pm on December 14, fill out an online form on the company’s website before January 1. SpotHero said it will award up to 1,000 prizes in all, or roughly 10 percent of the estimated 10,000 parking tickets issued in the city each day.

The promotion is designed to encourage Chicago drivers to avoid the risk of “costly parking tickets” by using the company’s mobile parking app or online service to reserve a parking space ahead of time. According to SpotHero, users of the service have access to more than 700 parking locations throughout the city

Even if you've never used SpotHero before, a reimbursed parking ticket is nothing to scoff at. If you were unlucky enough to find one of those bright orange envelopes on your windshield yesterday, you might as well take the company up on its offer of some financial relief.
