The Chicago Transit Authority announced Wednesday that pilot service on the No. 11 bus route will continue for an additional six months. Extended service between Western and Fullerton will carry on until June in order for CTA to continue gathering community feedback and evaluating ridership demand from Lincoln Avenue residents. Transit officials say the decision also allows for the collection of information about the route’s usage through all four seasons.

Last June, the CTA began the pilot service in response to input from residents who live along the route. Using that feedback, pilot schedules and hours of service were designed to offer riders better access to services such as senior activities, medical appointments and shops along Lincoln Avenue. CTA says its No. 11 extension connects riders to businesses and key destinations along the Lincoln corridor by adding more than 40 additional stops to the bus service.

The pilot service operates every 16 to 22 minutes from 10am to 7pm on weekdays. It extends the Lincoln bus service from the Western Brown Line stop to Red, Purple and Brown Line trains at Fullerton. According to CTA, the regular No. 11 route, which runs between Howard Street and the Western Brown Line, will not be affected by the extended service.

A decision on whether to continue the pilot, make the service extension permanent or end it all together will be made in June.
