Tony Award winner Debra Monk has joined the cast of Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s fall season opener Visiting Edna. Monk, whose Broadway credits include Redwood Curtain, Steel Pier, Curtains and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, is also an Emmy Award winner for her role on NYPD Blue.

Monk will play the title role of a cancer patient receiving a visit from her adult son in the world premiere by David Rabe, to be staged by Steppenwolf artistic director Anna D. Shapiro. She's joined in the cast by Ian Barford, K. Todd Freeman, Sally Murphy and Michael Rabe. Monk replaces the previously announced Rondi Reed, who has departed for personal reasons. Visiting Edna will run September 15–November 6 at Steppenwolf.
