Erica Daniels, the longtime casting director and associate artistic director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company and, more recently, president of Second City Theatricals, has joined Victory Gardens Theater as managing director.

Daniels was on staff at Steppenwolf from 2001 to 2015; she cast dozens of shows there, including the original cast of August: Osage County and the Tony-winning revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? She joined Second City in March of 2015 and spent a year and a half there, departing in October amid a larger administrative reorganization at that theater.

Victory Gardens board president Steve Miller and artistic director Chay Yew said Daniels was chosen after a nationwide search. In a statement, Yew described her as “a longtime friend of Victory Gardens, [a] cornerstone of the Chicago theater community and a fierce champion of new plays.” Daniels will begin her tenure on January 2. She replaces Christopher Mannelli, who is now with GEVA Theatre in Rochester, New York.
