Though just over 11 years old, the Harris Theater for Music and Dance today announced a $5 million lobby renovation project to begin next week. The changes to the subterranean performance venue, with its street-level entrance at the north end of Millennium Park, will involve installing two high-capacity elevators to expedite access to the multilevel undergrond lobby. The immediate lower lobby level will also be expanded to two stories high and 30% larger floor area. The project is expected to be completed by December.

The Harris, which opened in November 2003, is home to vital programming like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's MusicNOW series, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and more. Upcoming programming includes this weekend's Peking Acrobats, Chicago Opera Theater's Thérèse Raquin (February 20–28) and Hubbard's spring series (March 12–15).
