Grandma's homemade pumpkin pie could be a hot commodity this fall. According to a report from the Journal Star, the super rainy summer (which included the wettest June in Illinois history) haa had a pretty substantial impact on pumpkin yields.

Libby's Famous Pumpkin Pie, which is based in Morton, Illinois, produces roughly eight out of every 10 cans of pumpkin sold in the U.S., the majority of which comes from the company's farms in central Illinois. They're expecting their yield to be down by as much as a third from previous years, which will mean that you might have to try your hand at another dessert that isn't gourd-based this Thanksgiving.

Rural Illinois is known for its corn and soybeans, but it's actually the pumpkin that sets the state apart in terms of agriculture. About 90 percent of the country's pumpkins are grown within a 90-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois and the town of Morton brands itself as the "Pumpkin Capital of the World."
