Multiple CTA lines shut down temporarily around rush hour

Sometimes it's every man, woman and child for themselves when it comes to the CTA. And just in case your commute home wasn't enough of a challenge, you're about to play on hard mode.

A rainbow of CTA lines were shut down for approximately 30 minutes as crews worked to fix a ruptured gas line near Roosevelt, according to the Sun Times. At about 4pm, a hazardous materials alarm sounded for the 800 block of South State Street, where a four-inch gas line was leaking.

Orange and Green Line service was suspended between the Loop and Roosevelt soon after. Parts of the Red Line were rerouted to Purple and suspended between Loop and Cermak. And the Purple Line Express stopped completely.

About a half-hour after CTA armageddon began, the CTA tweeted that service from the Red, Orange, Green and Purple lines had resumed, but to expect delays. Apparently Hazmat incidents and gas leaks are quick to fix? Either way, the CTA is bound to be backed up for awhile and ride-sharing services continue to surge. Good thing it's a nice day to walk home from the office.
