Queen Mary Tavern's new snack menu is stellar (and affordable)

The drinks at Queen Mary Tavern pack a punch. Most of them have ingredients like navy strength rums and gins (the proof has to be more than 57 percent alcohol to be considered "navy strength"). Because they're such great cocktails, it's easy to get a little carried away, especially if you haven't had anything to eat. But no need to worry—belly up to the bar and order anything on the menu for a hearty dish that's easy on your wallet.

For a tasty and filling option, grab the clam chowder—warm with chewy hunks of clam and just the right amount of creaminess. The smoked whitefish dip makes for an easily shared snack, served with plenty of saltines to scoop up the tangy dip. A small container of spiced oyster crackers comes alongside your dishes, with small plates for sharing and napkins. The nautically themed bar also offers snacks like sourdough bread with butter, Spanish anchovies with sourdough and oysters on the half shell. The best part about the menu (aside from how tasty everything is)? Nothing, apart from market price oysters that vary in price, costs more than $10. The delicious clam chowder and generous whitefish dip clock in at $5 each.

Whether you’re starting the night with a few overproof cocktails or wrapping things up, Queen Mary Tavern has fantastic drinks and stellar cheap eats in a low-lit setting in Wicker Park.
