Nothing says "America" like voting in a place that serves mozzarella sticks. Unfortunately, Rogers Park residents of Ward 49, Precinct 9 were locked out of their designated polling station, Leona's Restaurant at 6935 N Sheridan Road. According to an e-mail 49th Ward Ald. Joe Moore sent to his constituents this morning, election judges were unable to get into the building early this morning, as the restaurant owners did not show up to let them in. Eventually, the police and fire departments arrived to break into the restaurant. Polling equipment was hastily assembled and voting began at 7:20am. Because of this snafu, Moore announced that the station will remain open until 8pm, an hour past the original closing time.
