Steppenwolf for Young Adults looks to themes of free will in its upcoming two-play season, which opens with a new production of Andrew White's stage version of 1984. The Orwellian adaptation, first staged at Lookingglass Theatre Company in 2004, will be directed by SYA artistic director Hallie Gordon; it runs October 21–November 15 in the Upstairs Theatre at Steppenwolf.

In the spring, SYA premieres The Compass, a devised, interactive performance that imagines what might happen if we let an app make decisions for us. Conceived and directed by Michael Rohd, it will run February 24–March 12 in the Downstairs Theatre.
