Target serving alcohol set to open in Streeterville next month

Shopping at Target can be a mind-boggling experience. With a seemingly endless supply of household "needs," it's hard to take a trip to the store without experiencing crippling anxiety. The Minnesota-based retailer has a plan to help calm your capitalism nerves—at least at one Chicago location.

The chain's newest Chicago location in Streeterville will be the first in the country to serve alcohol. According to Eater, it's set to open on October 11 at 401 E Illinois St. The move by Target is part of a wider trend of making banal Americana experiences more compelling by way of intoxication. The new Taco Bell in Wicker Park is serving up strange, boozy drinks, and you can get absolutely bombed while grocery shopping at most of Chicago's Mariano's Fresh Market and Whole Foods locations. And don't forget about Rahm's proposal to loosen open container laws on Navy Pier.

Target is being pretty tight-lipped on what its booze menu will include, but it will almost certainly make the search for shelves and curtains more entertaining.
