Spring is here and we’re headed full steam ahead into long days full of sunshine (fingers crossed). While some April showers are sure to cloud our days, that doesn’t mean we can’t get the family out of the house. Check out some of the best events for kids in Chicago in April.

Matilda. Don’t miss the Roald Dahl classic live on stage. The musical mayhem, sure to captivate audiences young and old, continues in Chicago through early April. (Oriental Theatre, 24 W Randolph St, Through April 10)

Juicebox Series at the Chicago Cultural Center. Take in a free concert with the little ones at this regularly occurring concert series that's fun for the whole family. (Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St, April 1 & 15, 11am)

Family Fun Day at Macy’s. You can dance, make crafts and win prizes during Family Fun Day—part of the annual Macy's Flower Show where the whole family can take in room after room filled with blooms. (Macy’s, 111 N State Street, April 2, 1pm)

Neighborhoods of the World. Explore a new country each week from the comforts of Navy Pier, with traditional music and dance, art and authentic cuisine. In April, the whole family can learn about Mexico, Poland and India, all for free. (Neighborhoods of the World, Sundays through April 17, Navy Pier, 600 E Grand Ave, noon–4pm)

Springtime Fun for Creative Kids. Room & Board hosts this kid-centric event, with readings from a local children's author, plus art, snacks and even tot-approved yoga. (Room & Board, 55 E Ohio St, April 16, 11am)

Spring Break Open Jumps. An afternoon at Pump It Up never fails to disappoint. Avoid hearing "I'm bored" and let the kids expend a little energy by bouncing around the inflatables. (Pump It Up, 821 W Eastman St, April 18–22)

Randolph Street Market Festival. Do your kids like to shop? Then this festival of 200-plus vendors selling everything from clothing to food is the perfect fit. Plus, families can opt for the $25 package—good for two adults and up to four kids, including snacks for the youngsters. (Beaux Arts Plumbers Union Hall Building, 1340 W Washington Blvd, April 23 & 24, 10am)

Earth Day Kite Fly at Heritage Center. Make your own kite and watch it soar during this free special event. (Heritage Center, Villa Park, 1S325 Ardmore Avenue, April 23, 1pm)

Free museum days. Take advantage of these free days every month, whether it's time to take the kids to the zoo or explore a little Chicago history. Free museum days are also the perfect antidote to rainy day boredom around the house.
