The five best things to do this weekend after Christmas

1. Skate the stress away

Snow might not be here just quite yet, but several spots around the city have managed to put some ice on the ground. You'll find indoor and outdoor skating rinks all around Chicago, just waiting for you to start cutting figure eights. (Various locations and hours, Friday through Sunday)

2. Have a night at the theater

The holiday season may be coming to a close, but theater in Chicago rarely, if ever, goes away. Domesticated explores the post-political life of a lawmaker forced into retirement due to a sex scandal, while examining the possibility that it's simply natural for men to be unable to remain faithful to their wives. (Steppenwolf Theatre Company, 1650 N Halsted St, 3pm & 7:30pm on Saturday & Sunday. $20–$89)

3. Bask in holiday fear

Once Halloween is over, the remainder of the year becomes filled with tidings of good cheer. If you've been in a "bah humbug!" mood, there's a remedy for that. Hop on the Chicago Hauntings Bus Tour, led by paranormal researcher Ursula Bielski and her staff. For two hours, guests delve into the dark history of Chicago's bloody (and spooky) past. (Tours begin at Rock n Roll McDonald's, 600 N Clark St, 8pm on Saturday. $40)

4. Laugh a little

The monthly Yeah Buddy Awesome Time Comedy Show at Brainstorm Comics features local up-and-coming comedy talent, as well as a few off-beat acts sure to bust your gut. Plus, this low-key event is BYOB and doesn't cost a thing. Show up on the day after Christmas to catch sets from Sammy Arechar, Natalie Shure, Tommy McNamara and more great comics. (Brainstorm Comics, 1579 N Milwaukee Ave, 8:30pm on Saturday. Free)

5. Relive the holidays

If you're still in the Christmas spirit, head over to Boiler Room in Logan Square for PBR Movie Night on Sunday. This edition features a screening of Home Alone, just in case you didn't end up watching it on TV sometime within the past month. Be sure to RSVP to score a free beer and a koozie! (Boiler Room, 2210 N California Ave, 8pm on Sunday. Free with RSVP)
