1. Give thanks for Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks humbly holds the title of America's favorite movie star, according to a recent Harris Poll. Join other super fans to some of Hanks' best movies, compete for prizes, enjoy drink specials and raise money for his favorite charity Lifeline Energy. (Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln Ave, Sat 12pm, $10 donation)

2. Celebrate a birthday

Everyone's invited to Sink|Swim's one-year anniversary birthday bash. Sip $6 rosé and sparkling cocktails, throw back $1 oysters and try popular dishes that are back on the menu for this special occasion. (Sink|Swim, 3213 W Armitage Ave, Sun 10am, Free)

3. Hop on the cider bandwagon

Get on board the Cider Rider and head up north for a tour of three Michigan cideries. Enjoys tastings at every cider house, speak with the folks who make your favorite ciders and take a lunch break at Uncle John's Cider Mill. (Pick-up at N Wells St and W Evergreen Ave, Sat 7am-7pm, $99-$110)

4. Relive your favorite musical

Get up close to see Rent in the intimate space of the No Exit Cafe. Scott Weinstein's revival immerses the audience in the natural performances of an impressive cast. (No Exit Cafe, 6970 Glenwood Ave, Fri-Sat 8pm, Sun 7pm, $34-$39)

5. Hear some killer music

Bloomington, Indiana country rock outfit Murder by Death takes its name from a satirical mystery film, so the group's penchant for cinematic balladry makes perfect sense. You'll hear tunes from the band's 2015 album, Big Dark Love, at this concert, which also features performances by Tim Barry and Lil Bub (The Band). (Metro, 3730 N Clark St, Sat 9pm, $23)
