The five best things to do this weekend in Chicago

1. Let the hills come alive!

The Music Box’s annual Sound of Music sing along series is back this weekend and next. This holiday tradition is one of Chicago’s “Favorite Things.” (Oof, I’m so sorry for that pun). (Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave, 1pm and 7pm Fri-Sat, 1pm Sun. $12.50, kids $8)

2. Lace up for a skate at the zoo

The Farm-In-The-Zoo ice rink opens for the winter on Black Friday. Take the little ones for a spin around the rink, and say “hi” to the cows while you’re there. (Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N Clark St, Fri-Sun 12pm-9pm. $5 admission, $5 skate rental)

3. See an indie legend perform

Conor Oberst, of Bright Eyes fame, brings his striking vocals and indie-folk compositions to Chicago this weekend. Oberst will play off his latest LP, as well as dive into his canon of work. (Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St, Sat-Sun 8:30pm. $40)

4. Laugh your way into the holiday season

Jump into the holidays head-first with the Second City’s Holidazed & Confused, its annual winter sketch revue. Laugh off your post-Thanksgiving stress with these top-notch performers. (UP Comedy Club at Second City, 230 W North Ave, 8pm and 11am Fr-Sat, 7pm Sun. $31-$46)

5. Cross the Thanksgiving finish line

Didn’t get to a Turkey Trot on Thursday morning? Lace up for Grant Park’s annual Thanksgiving 5K, two days after the holiday itself. (Grant Park, 337 E Randolph St, 9am. $45)
