The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. See a Shakespeare classic

The Hamburg Ballet interprets Shakespeare classic Othello featuring a score performed by the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Shakespeare 400 festival, celebrating the 400th year since the playwright's death. (Harris Theater, 205 E Randolph St, 7:30pm. $35–$125)

2. Reach back into history

Turn back time with this somber look at the 1936 Berlin Olympic games in the Illinois Holocaust Museum's most recent exhibit. "Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936" details the games in Germany under Nazi rule, when black American runner Jesse Owens won four gold medals, despite Hitler's regime openly endorsing white supremacist ideologies during official ceremonies. (Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, 9603 Woods Dr, Skokie, 10am. $12, seniors & students $8, children $6)

3. Watch the impossible

Roberto Bolaño’s novel 2666 falls in line with other over-sized novels in it's class as impossible to adapt for the screen or the stage, but Robert Falls and Seth Bockley have seemingly accomplished both. The five-hour-plus play is much like the novel: A heavy, and at times comedic, meditation on life, death and art. (Goodman Theatre, 170 N Dearborn St, 6:30pm. $20–$45)
