The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Get cozy with psychedelic tunes

Head to Schubas to see Quilt, a band that melds ’70s folk rock and the psychedelic sounds of the ’60s. The Boston group comes to Chicago behind its latest LP, Plaza, which is influenced by bands like Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds. (Schubas, 3159 N Southport Ave, 8pm, $12)

2. Travel back in time

Arcadia hops back and forth between two time periods while exploring the relationship of a tutor and an unrecognized math prodigy. Enjoy this ever-changing play with compelling, detailed and layered performances by the Writers Theatre cast. (Writers Theatre, 325 Tudor Ct, 7:30pm, $50-$80)

3. Explore an artist's imagination

Artist Rodrigo Lara Zendejas translates memories of his grandparents' garden in Mexico into a multimedia installation. Much of Zendejas' work confronts the hardships of immigration and relocating to another country through a nostalgic, thoughtful lens. (Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S Cornell Ave, 9am, Free)
