1. See a gifted artist take the stage

Rapper Freddie Gibbs's work ethic and skills have earned him a reputation from coast to coast. Hear his flow at Thalia Hall while he performs his latest album, Shadow of a Doubt(Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St, 8:30pm. $22–$28)

2. Make it a theater night

Head over to Steppenwolf to watch a captivating play by Tracy Letts about an ordinary woman's life. The touching and smartly constructed production is directed by the talented Anna D. Shapiro. (Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N Halsted, 7:30pm. $20–$89)

3. Take in trippy art

It's a great day to view the more than 100 surrealist paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs that make you question their artists' sanity. Greats like Magritte, Ernst, Durham and Koons are all featured in this collection. (Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E Chicago Ave, 10am. $12 suggested donation)
