1. Be a musician for a day

At Make Music Chicago, attendees can spend a whole day exploring different performances, instruments and sounds. Choose from more than 200 performances in 40 neighborhoods across Chicago to hear everything from afro-jams to youth orchestras. (Various venues, 10am–10pm. Free)

2. Watch a movie on the lawn

This summer, Millennium Park is hosting a Summer Film Series where you’ll be able to enjoy the classics and recent blockbusters beneath the stars. Pack a picnic and catch the first screening of the series, Chicago favorite Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (Millennium Park, 55 N Michigan Ave, 6:30pm. Free)

3. Hang out in MCA’s backyard

The Museum of Contemporary Art has an awesome two-level terrace with a lush garden that's also home to a lineup of stellar performers from the Chicago jazz community. This week, Tuesdays on the Terrace continue with the Josh Berman Trio. (Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E Chicago Ave, 5:30pm. Free)
