The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Bug out

Enjoy a variety of intelligent, dark, biting and humorous plays inspired by the life and works of Franz Kafka. For the third year, First Floor Theater presents a night of short plays based on iconic authors. Having tackled the Brothers Grimm and Mark Twain, Kafka-inspired original plays are staged back to back in Kafkapalooza. Things might get weird. (Collaboraction’s Pentagon Theater, 1579 N Milwaukee Ave, 8pm. $15)

2. Get in on the secret

There’s a lot to learn from objects, and no one knows this better than the Chicago History Museum or anyone watching Pawn Stars. The museum’s exhibit "The Secret Lives of Objects" presents a selection of rare objects (like Charlie Chaplin's cane) and digs into the stories they tell. Discover these secret chapters in history. (Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark St, 9:30am–4:30pm. $14)

3. Take board game night to the beach

If you’ve never attended a cult ritual on a beach at night, tonight is your chance. Cult comedy Clue screens at Kathy Osterman Beach, where you can expect the film’s fanatic fan base to exclaim one-liners in perfect unison. Whether you already know Madeline Kahn’s monologue and Tim Curry’s quips by heart or simply need a good laugh, throw on your flip-flops for tonight’s Movies in the Parks screening. (Kathy Osterman Beach, 5800 N Lake Shore Dr, 8pm. Free)
