1. Make an impression

There’s more than tutus to the paintings of Edgar Degas. Unlike his contemporaries, his impressionist painting style focused less on light and more on the human form in motion. Get moved yourself by the collection of paintings of dancers and jockeys in The Art Institute’s "At the Track, On the Stage" today. (Art Institute, 111 S Michigan Ave, 10:30am–5pm. $25 included in admission)

2. Dick around a bit

See David Catlin’s riveting and acrobatic adaptation of Moby Dick at the Lookingglass Theatre, set entirely in the belly of the beast. We join the actors inside a vast rib cage for a retelling of Melville’s classic. See this show we love before it leave August 28. (Lookingglass Theater, 821 N Michigan Ave, 7:30pm. $40–$80)

3. Enjoy the good life

Catch a well-earned hump day concert tonight at Lincoln Hall, where you can hear The Good Life, as the band headlines with its indie rock and emotional lyricism. Americana duo Big Harp and post-punk band See Through Dresses open. (Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln Ave, 9pm. $20)
