The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Catch the Cali sound

Rock out to the raw garage-pop of San Fran band Thee Oh Sees at the Empty Bottle. The band’s been cranking out an album (or two) a year for the last half decade and we can expect to hear some prog-y tracks off Mutilator Defeated At Last, released earlier this year. (Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, 9pm. $15)

2. Get some perspective

See two very different perspectives on the extremely closed off North Korea at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. The incredible exhibit “North Korean Perspectives” presents the government's official North Korea narrative next to photographs taken by embedded photojournalists to contrast the way the government presents itself with a rare inside look. (Museum of Contemporary Photography, 600 S Michigan Ave, 10am–5pm. Free)

3. Attend a debonair basement dance party

Night Club Neo proved too cool for Lincoln Park and was booted from its building of 30-plus years. But the party must go on, and it now takes over the basement of the Debonair Social Club for a weekly party full of new waves tracks. (Debonair Social Club, 1575 N Milwaukee Ave, 9pm. $5, free before 11pm with RSVP)
