1. Plan for a stroke

The Strokes’ distinct guitarist and keyboard tickling Albert Hammond Jr. continues his solid solo career with his newest album Momentary Masters and plays the Bottom Lounge tonight. Fans of the Strokes or the artist himself will not want to miss this jittery and energetic indie rocker's set. (Bottom Lounge, 1375 W Lake St, 8pm. $20)

2. Get a dose of laughter with a Chicago fave

Laugh out loud when rising star and Chicago comedy vet Beth Stelling takes the mic at Beat Kitchen. Stelling isn’t new to stand-up, but she’s undoubtedly noteworthy having appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan and @midnight since dropping her 2012 comedy album, Sweet Beth. You get two chances to see this laid-back Chicago favorite—tonight at 7 and 10pm. The shows are for ages 17 and over. (Beat Kitchen, 2100 W Belmont Ave, 7 & 10pm. $12)

3. Block out some free time

If you still haven’t checked out Evanston’s excellent Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art, Geof Oppenheimer’s first solo museum exhibit, “Big Boss and the Ecstasy of Pressures” is the perfect reason to finally make the trip. Explore the intricacies of the forces that regulate human society, from economics to politics, through the Chicago-based artist’s works, including video and a large sculpture. Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Dr, 10am–5pm. Free)
